My morning skincare routine - August 2014

I love having a snoop into other people’s skincare routines, so I thought I’d share what I’m currently using in the morning.

First step – cleanser // Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm

I do love this beautiful cleansing balm – it smells divine and leaves my skin feeling silky. I've used one pot night and day since the beginning of the year, yet a little goes a long way and I still have some left. Some days where I think I need a less thorough clean, I’ll just use the Avene Cleanance Soapless Gel Cleanser in the shower. If I still have a bit of makeup under my eyes, I’ll wipe it off with a bit of my Bioderma  Crealine H2O Micellar Water.

Second step – sunscreen // La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Tinted Fluid

I’ve waxed lyrical about this SPF here and it is the one step of my morning routine I’d never miss. As it’s a chemical sunscreen (it contains ecamsule, which absorbs UV light), I apply it directly on cleansed skin to allow maximum absorption of the active ingredients.

Third step – toner //  Caudalie Beauty Elixir

As Caroline Hirons says, I use a facial mist to better allow my serum and moisturizer to sink in. I’ll let you get to grips with her ‘sandwich’ analogy here.

Fourth step – eye cream // Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado

I was initially a little hesitant to use such a heavy cream during the day, especially under makeup. However, this definitely has made my under eyes plumper and stopped my concealer creasing as much. A winner in my books.

Note: applying an eye cream before moisturizer helps more product to be absorbed.

Fifth step – serum // Indeed Laboratories Pepta-Bright

Having fallen head-over-heels for their Hydraluron Serum, I was excited to try out another offering from the Indeed Labs collection. This product is intended for brightening the skin and reducing the appearance of dark spots.

Sixth step – moisturizer // Origins GinZing Energy-Boosting Moisturiser

This deliciously smelling moisturizer is my final step before makeup. It contains caffeine and ginseng, which purportedly energises and brightens the skin. The main appeal for me is its light, gel texture and citrusy scent that helps to wake me and my tired skin up. I will sometimes add a few drops of my Clarins Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster into my moisturiser, to add a bit of colour into my complexion.

As summer is coming, my routine will likely change and lighten in the coming weeks. But for now, I hope you’ve enjoyed a peek into what I put on my face every morning.
