Creating a Long-Lasting Base

There are some days where a bit of tinted moisturiser and a coat of mascara can get you through. There are others, however, where you're out from the crack of dawn and don't get home til midnight -  it is these days where you need your makeup to go the distance. Especially as the weather is getting warmer, it's important to make a good base so you don't discover at 10:30am that your foundation has already completely disappeared.

Prime well //

Think of this step as a glue for your foundation to stick to. For long, busy days, I can't go past my Hourglass Veil Mineral primer.

Think matte //

I would love to be a girl that could wear all the light and dewy foundations. However, I recently realised that my skin is a bit too oily to use those foundations, especially on long days. If you're like me, pick a long-lasting matte foundation. I'm a fan of Estée Lauder Double Wear, which is notorious for being absolutely budge proof. Choose accordingly to your skin type, but don't be afraid to pick a matte foundation. You can always add a bit of glow back with a highlighter later.

Double your blush //

On long days, blush can quickly disappear along with the rest of your base. To counter that, I like to use a cream blush (I like Stila's Convertible Colour), then when I use my powder products, add a light cover of a powder blush as well. It won't look over the top, but it will keep you looking rosy for longer.

Use a makeup fixing spray //

I like to think of this as a hairspray for your face. Once you're done with your liquid products, spritz a bit of setting spray on your face (this Urban Decay one is really lovely) and your makeup somehow just sticks around longer.

Powder //

Blot any oily patches in your skin with a mattifying powder. Make sure you are lightly tapping in the product to your face, as opposed to sweeping it across - the latter will just rub off your foundation. I'd recommended topping up your powder throughout the day to really seal in your makeup.

And you're done! With these steps completed, your makeup will definitely stay perfect longer.
