Body brushing

Body brushing has been on my radar for a few years, since hearing that Miranda Kerr swears by it daily. If you're not familiar, it involves taking a large bristle brush and brushing your dry skin.


Body brushing is supposed to stimulate your lymphatic system and eliminate toxins, increase blood circulation and exfoliate the skin, along with a myriad of other health benefits. There's quite a bit out there about the proper way to body brush, some of which is very prescriptive and can take up to 20 minutes. I'm much more relaxed: I start at my feet and ankles, brushing my skin in circular motions upward, then my legs, upper body, and finally in a downward motion on my back. You have to do it on dry skin, so I tend to do it every day before my shower.

I use a brush from the Body Shop (pictured above) and the long handle is brilliant for getting to my back. I find body brushing excellent for exfoliating before shaving and it also gets my blood pumping, so I favour doing it in the morning.

I'll never look like Miranda Kerr unfortunately, but her body brushing technique is something I've really gotten into.
