Nail polish combinations for fingers and toes

In her book 'Pretty Honest', Sali Hughes said that life is too short to have matching nail polish on your fingers and toes. While I find having one colour on both can satisfy my Type-A self, in some situations it is boring or inappropriate - notably, while nudes are elegant on fingertips, they tend to make feet look pasty and corpse-like. As a general rule, I like pairing bright toe polish with more sophisticated colours on my hands. Here are a few of my favourite fingers/toes combinations...
Nude and dark // Nails Inc Alexa Cashmere and Mecca Acai
This is the ultimate combination for the sophisticate - restrained neutral colour on top and a vampy purple on the bottom. While nudes and berries are more often associated with the winter, this mix looks equally edgy in the warmer months.

White and blue // Essie Blanc and Essie In The Cabana
White on its own can be difficult to wear, but it is softened when matched with a beautiful aqua hue. I find it a very summery combination, perhaps because it evokes the colours of sand and sea.

Metallic and orange // Nails Inc South Kensington and Chanel Holiday
Both make a statement in their own way, but the silver and bright orange work together and don't overpower each other. It's the embodiment futuristic and glamorous nails.

Shades of pink // Essie Fiji and Sephora Formula X Power Source
If in doubt, go for varying hues of the same colour - a pastel and a hot pink together are pretty as a picture.

What are some of your favourite polish combinations?
