My new dressing table

I had always dreamt of having a luxurious dressing table, where I could artfully arrange candles, flowers and perfume bottles. Having moved house recently to a space with a tiny bathroom but a roomier bedroom, this seemed to be the perfect opportunity to realise this dream.

Please ignore the messy table behind me - a new chest of drawers is my next project

Of the dressing tables IKEA offers, the HEMNES was the one I gravitated towards - I preferred its softness to the very popular MALM. After much consideration of each table's pros and cons (HEMNES is far prettier, MALM provides more storage), I went with my initial hunch - the HEMNES - and I could not be happier.

It boasts a large drawer that is disguised under the counter that, along with the two little drawers on top, house almost my entire makeup collection (you may spy the lipstick holder tucked to one side of the table). As well as been aesthetically pleasing, the large mirror is ideal for makeup application.

While I had intended only to showcase my new dressing table decorated with all my little luxuries, I would secretly like to brag about having constructed two pieces of flatpack furniture (including the stool) almost entirely on my own - although Thibault and my stepfather definitely helped. After a lost dowel, some cross-threading, three trips to IKEA and one to Bunnings, I finally have a dressing table I am enamoured with.
