My mother's beauty loves

Given I spend my time on here talking about my beauty favourites, it's only fair that I also give credit to those who have helped to shape my beauty tastes. No one has been so influential on my love of beauty as my mother, Sabina, who I have convinced to run me through some of her favourite products, both skincare and makeup. She is incredibly knowledgeable about beauty and I am so pleased to be able to share some of her favourites with you today.

She puts a lot of effort into her appearance and always presents herself beautifully. She would never consider leaving the house without doing her whole face of makeup (and yes, that does include a quick run to the shops and walking the dog). While I'm quite comfortable to go out of the house au naturel, I can't deny that her approach to beauty has left an indelible impact on my own; I am proud to be her daughter.

Tess: Who is your biggest beauty icon?
Sabina: Jerry Hall – she was unique for her time, extremely glamorous and true to herself. She never followed trends. Her makeup was always incredible, she had amazing hair that we all aspired to and carried herself with great confidence. Although she was a supermodel in her time, she has always come across as being an intelligent, unaffected and strong woman and someone who is confident in her own skin. She has aged gracefully over the years so I still admire her and consider her a role model.

T: What are your favourite makeup products?
S: I go for brands that offer an intensity in their colours such as Urban Decay (especially their eye pencils that are better than anything on the market), NARS (their blushes and lipsticks are amazing), Make Up For Ever and Kat Von D. I also love Inglot eye shadows as they have real staying power and maximum impact. NYX Cosmetics also have a great range of high-impact eye shadows. One must have item in my makeup collection is the Cake Eyeliner Sealer by Napoleon Perdis. I mix it in my eyeshadows for evening as it significantly increases the intensity of the eye shadows. I do love Revlon's Colourstay Foundation for combinations skin as it has great staying power. As a primer I love the Urban Decay primers as they work better than many of the other primers I have used.

T: What does your skincare routine look like?
S: I have religiously cleansed, toned and moisturised my skin since I was 15 years old so my skincare routine has always been those three steps twice a day. I currently am using Clarins cleansers (morning and night) and Clarins toner in the morning and Clinique toner at night. I find the Clinique toner does a great job at taking away any excess makeup or grime on my skin at the end of the day. The Sephora toners are also good for the day. As I am getting older I have been using a variety of oils on my skin at night to give my skin a treat. I use the Clarins' Blue Orchid Oil regularly at nights and use the HydraQuench Lotion in the day as I have combination skin so this does not make my skin oily. For my eyes I use Clarins' Eye Contour Gel both day and night.

Once a week I exfoliate using Clinque's 7 Day Scrub Cream and once or twice a week I will use a mask. Currently I use either the Clarins' HydraQuench Cream Mask or Clinique Turnaround Revitalising Instant Facial. If I experience break outs I use the Men's Post-Shave Healer from Clinque, which has aloe in it and helps soothe the skin, and Mario Badescu's Drying Lotion, which heals any breakouts. As for eye makeup removal I use either Revlon's Colourstay Gentle Eye and Lip Makeup Remover or Sephora's Eye Waterproof Makeup Remover.
